Beginner Punch Needle Rug Hooking

Join us for a day of Oxford Punch Needle Rug Making with Martha Barnes.
Included in the class fee is the pattern, monks cloth, yarn and beginner's handout.
10" hoop or gripper frame and either a #10 or #13 FINE Oxford Punch Needle are required and available for purchase.
Punch needles and frames are available for use during class if required.

| Instructor Bio: | Martha has been an avid crafter all her life. For many years she honed her skill as a decorative painter, skill gained through extensive study travel and practice. She taught decorative painting in her studio for many years. In 2013 Martha was exposed to the world of rug hooking and punch needle embroidery. In 2017 she discovered the Oxford Punch Needle, just prior to it going viral. Through attendance at conferences and training events and through practice she has become accomplished in these arts. Martha is a Member of the Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia. She was vice-president of The International Guild of Handhooking Rugmakers (TIGHR) from 2019-2021. Martha participates in a number of groups that meet to hook rugs and socialize, she also teaches punch needle embroidery at a local business. Martha achieves her greatest satisfaction when she can give all and share her skills and knowledge with those who are willing to learn. A native of Nova Scotia, Martha practiced as a registered nurse for 34 years rising to be head nurse of ophthalmology in the operating room at Newfoundland and Labrador's largest tertiary care health center. It is her eye surgery practice done while peering through a microscope that formed the basis of her skill at fine detail crafts. Martha has sat on numerous professional and community boards and commissions. |
